Shopify's Edition drops are always equal parts exciting (what's new?), fascinating (what future path is being charted?) and overwhelming (where's the end of this list?!). They're also inspiring!
This year's Fall Editions drop also inspired us to climb out of our product development cave and share everything we've built to make gifting easier for you and your customers.
We've now frozen new features for the holidays. Until January, the only changes we'll ship are high-priority bug fixes, and only after rigorous testing. So here's the whole toolkit you've got to power the next two months of huge gift orders.
A multi-recipient checkout that gifters finish
Your multi-recipient checkout is where a gifter decides whether sending 30 gifts from your store is easy or a chore. Most of this year's work went here.
The fully rebuilt multi-recipient checkout. Gifters add recipients, products, addresses, gift messages and ship dates on one page, see each recipient's shipping and tax as they go, and pay once. It's now the checkout for every new setup, with the legacy version retired. How multi-recipient checkout works
Built for the way people actually build gift lists. A spreadsheet import adds recipients to the ones already entered instead of replacing them. "Add to all" puts a product on every recipient in one click. Add-on products, bundles from your bundle app, and digital products and gift cards all work in the cart. On mobile, a sticky order summary keeps the total in view. Set up multi-recipient checkout
One cart for one gift or fifty. Cart page mode adds a toggle between shipping to one person and shipping to several, so the multi-recipient option sits on your regular cart page instead of a separate one. Advanced checkout settings
A different checkout for every kind of gifter. On Pro plans and higher, multiple checkout configurations let separate pages run their own checkout: their own recipient fields, shipping and date rules, discount tiers, order tags and wording. Run your public gifting page alongside a private page for a repeat corporate client, a staff order entry page, or a holiday campaign page with its own products and volume discounts. Multiple checkout configurations
Personalization per recipient. Product custom fields, including file uploads, can be set per recipient and land on the recipient's order as line item properties, order details or metafields. Product customization in multi-recipient checkout
In your customers' language. The cart and inquiry form can be translated, and translations can be exported and imported as a file. Translate the multi-recipient cart
Incentives for bigger carts, pricing for every buyer
Volume discounts by order value, recipients, or items. Set tiers that unlock as the cart grows, with a progress message that tells the gifter how close they are to the next one. As of this week, tiers can be based on item count and limited to the products that should count: a winery can count bottles from its Wine collection and leave out gift boxes and corkscrews. Discounts in multi-recipient checkout
Discount codes that behave like your storefront. Codes apply per recipient and respect product restrictions. Gifters can combine codes that are set to combine, and you decide whether codes stack with volume discounts. Shopify automatic discounts apply too. Every recipient order now carries a Discounts attribute, so you can see which codes were used.
Negotiated prices without workarounds. Shopify B2B catalog pricing applies when a company customer is logged in. On manual uploads in the app, Market catalog prices now carry through to the gifter order totals, and a Unit price column overrides the catalog price for a row, for the corporate client with a negotiated rate. Some buyers shouldn't self-serve
A 400-recipient order with custom packaging and net 30 terms needs your team, not a checkout button. This year we gave those buyers an escape path out of self-serve checkout and straight to you.
Cap the size of self-serve orders. The Max recipients setting limits how many recipients a gifter can add in the multi-recipient cart, so your biggest orders can't go through self-serve. Pair it with inquiries, below, so those buyers can send their cart to your team instead. Core checkout settings
Inquiries from the cart. A gifter who has built a cart but has a question can submit it to your team instead of checking out. Recipients, addresses, products and gift messages arrive as a draft Send. You choose when the option appears: by order total, item quantity or recipient count. Inquiries from multi-recipient checkout
A stronger inquiry form. Address autocomplete, translations, more than one form for different audiences, date fields with earliest and latest dates, and fields that save straight onto the recipient orders. You can edit what a buyer submitted before it becomes a Send. Set up the corporate gifting inquiry form · From submission to invoice
Delivery dates and shipping on your terms
Show only the shipping rates that make sense. Shipping rate filters hide rates by name or price in the multi-recipient cart, such as local pickup or special handling options you don't offer for gift orders. A filter can apply only when a matching rate exists, so no recipient is left without a shipping option. Shipping rate filters
Local delivery and pickup that keep up. If you use Zapiet or Bird for local delivery and pickup, orders you upload in the app now have one button that switches every recipient in the Send to local delivery or to shipping. With Zapiet, recipients fall back to calculated shipping rates when local delivery isn't set up. Zapiet · Bird
Your own dates and rates. The custom shipping API supplies your own rates and delivery dates in both multi-recipient checkout and orders you upload, and it can now set its own date formats, so delivery dates read the way your customers expect. Custom shipping API
Less manual work for your team
Staff order entry. When a corporate buyer calls or emails, your team can place the order for them through your own storefront cart, with customization, personalization and bundles intact. It lands in the app as a draft Send ready to charge to a credit card or send as an invoice. Staff order entry
Fix a Send without starting over. On uploaded orders, you can add, change or remove a recipient's products at the review and finalize steps, add a recipient at the last step, add or remove discount codes, and apply custom rates to every row at once. If an upload comes in short (rows missing from the file), we flag it before you go further.
Exports your accountant can use. The finalize export includes order metafields and shipping rates with plain numbers. Tax can be itemized on the gifter order. Dashboard and data exports
A downloadable recipient list for every invoice. Each Send has a download link for its full recipient list: every recipient, address, product and price as a spreadsheet. Add it to Shopify's invoice email template, or copy it into your own emails, so the buyer's accounts team can check the order without asking you for a copy. The buyer signs in to their customer account to open it. Add the recipient list to your invoice email
A private checkout for repeat clients. Multiple checkout configurations let you give a corporate client their own page with their own settings. Create a private multi-recipient checkout
After they pay: visibility and confidence at every touchpoint
A gifter sending one gift wants to know it arrived. Now multiply that by 30, or 300. Did every address, gift message and delivery date come through? Which gifts have shipped? Did they all arrive? The answers are usually in your admin, not in front of the gifter, so they email you. These features show the gifter what was captured and where every gift is, from the confirmation email to the last delivery.
A Sends page in the customer account. Gifters see every Send they've placed, with each recipient's order, fulfillment status and tracking, plus the delivery date and gift message. A banner on the order links to it. Add the Sends page and Order Send banner
Delivery digest emails. A Shopify Flow trigger fires once a day when a Send's delivery status changes, so you can email gifters a single summary instead of 30 shipping notifications. It flags delayed, failed and returned deliveries too. Set up delivery digest emails with Flow and Klaviyo
Customize every email touchpoint. Shopify's default notifications were written for one order going to one person. Our tutorials and ready-to-paste templates help you rework each one for gift orders: an order confirmation that lists every recipient, an invoice with the full recipient list, and a shipping notification that tells the recipient who the gift is from. Bringing last year's gifters back
Send again: last year's recipients in one shot. A gifter can repeat last year's Send in a couple of clicks: same recipients, addresses, products and messages, ready to edit. And the Recipients page in the customer account works even if you've never used Send To Many, used another bulk order app last year, or never offered multi-recipient orders at all. It reads the gifter's Shopify order history, so everyone they've shipped to shows up, however those orders were placed. They select up to 50 people and start a new multi-recipient order with every name and address filled in. Send again
A link for your holiday campaign. Send again also works as a link in your email campaigns, so you can email last year's gifters a button that opens their list. Win back last year's holiday gifters
Shopify Flow and your other systems
Automate around Sends. Four Flow triggers (Send created, Send completed, invoice paid, and fulfillment status changed) and, new this week, our first Flow action: Add order line item, which adds a product such as packaging or a printed insert to recipient orders. Gifter orders are tagged so Flow can fulfill them or copy a PO number across. Shopify Flow for bulk orders
Cleaner data for your ERP. Recipient orders carry the shipping rate code your warehouse or ERP expects, and discount details on every order. Send To Many and your ERP
What to do this week
Everything above is live today. Between now and January, the only changes will be high-priority bug fixes, so what you set up this week works the same way through the holidays. If you only do a few things before your busiest weeks:
Run through the launch checklist and place a test order with three recipients, including one with a delivery date.
Set a volume discount tier your typical gifter can reach.
Add the Sends page to customer accounts so gifters can check on their orders without emailing you.
Schedule a Send again email to last year's holiday gifters.
Send To Many helps you deliver a great gifting experience to your gifting customers, whether they're sending to 2 recipients or 2,000. With multi-recipient checkout and spreadsheet upload handled inside Shopify, you can spend December on the rest of your business. If you want a second pair of eyes on your setup before the rush, schedule a call and we'll go through it with you.
