Someone lands on your store planning to send a hundred gifts, and that shopper is worth a hundred ordinary customers. But most stores hand them the same path as someone buying one candle. These five rules are how you treat the big-list gifter like the most valuable visitor of the day, from the moment they land through the moment their gifts arrive.

1. The buyer decides before they ever reach checkout

A corporate buyer decides where to place their order weeks before they place it. If multi-recipient ordering isn't discoverable while they browse, you were never in the running.

The fix is a top-level "Gifting" or "Corporate Gifting" item in your navigation, with a one-line descriptor. It answers the capability question before the buyer has to ask it, and it's the single highest-leverage placement on your site. Burying that link in the footer tells a five-figure buyer the department is in the basement. (For what that page should say once they click, see our guide to corporate gifting pages that convert.)

To test this: put on a customer hat, go to your own site, and count the seconds it takes to figure out whether you can handle a 100-recipient order.

If it takes longer than a few seconds, a lot of buyers won't stick around to find out. Stores with highly giftable products turn down big orders every season without knowing it, because the buyer left before submitting anything. If you don't want to build a full checkout yet, an inquiry form on the storefront is the fastest way to catch that buyer before they leave.

2. Every gifting link is a promise the next step has to keep

Every mention of gifting sets an expectation, and the journey works when each step confirms the last one. The nav link promises capability. The gifting page promises ease. The cart delivers it. The confirmation shows every package went where it should.

Break the chain anywhere and the buyer notices. A "Corporate Gifting" link that leads to a bare "Contact us" form breaks it immediately because you promised a capability and delivered a phone number.

Goode Company
, the Houston barbecue brand known for its pecan pies, closes the loop the other way. They promise easy bulk gifting, then prove it with fire-branded wooden lids carrying a company's logo, a mockup approved before the order, and lids held on a warehouse shelf for repeat buyers. The promise and the proof match, and customized lids are now their fastest-growing SKU.

3. Three gifters walk in, and they don't want the same thing

Not every gifter wants the same thing. Some want to self-serve a multi-recipient checkout. Some have a spreadsheet and want to hand it off. Some want a conversation before they commit five figures. Force one mode on all three and you lose two of them.

Goode Company sees this split directly. Customers with the same list every year prefer the do-it-yourself option and want little involvement. Customers whose list changes, or who want new artwork on their lid, want the team to step in.

So offer all three paths: a self-service multi-recipient checkout, a spreadsheet upload for longer lists, and an inquiry form for the buyer who wants to talk first. Send To Many handles all three inside Shopify, so an inquiry can be fulfilled from the same upload flow the merchant already uses.

4. A 100-recipient order carries 100 times the worry

A 100-recipient order carries a hundred times the worry of a single order. Address validation, per-recipient progress, a visible running total, and a reviewable summary before payment are conversion features, not conveniences.

Taylor at Goode Company put the stakes plainly: “with a big order, one misspelled street name or a missing gift message is a needle in a haystack, and a wrong gift message means the recipient got something the customer never intended”. In their first year on Send To Many, address validation caught bad addresses before orders went out, and resends the following month dropped. Their reps processed about 40% more volume per person than the year before, because they stopped double-checking work they'd learned to distrust. When the tool removes the fear, the order gets bigger and the team moves faster, another example is that Haus Decor fulfilled 2,200 corporate gift orders from a single upload.

5. The recipient never chose you, and might become your next gifter

The gifter pays, but the recipient experiences your brand. Design for the recipient and one order becomes a hundred brand impressions, and some of those recipients become next year's gifters.

Both Félix & Norton, the Montreal cookie brand, and Fastachi, the Boston nut company, see the same pattern: someone receives a gift, loves it, and comes back to send it to their own list. Félix & Norton found the loop lives in the packaging. They rarely make new cookies; they make new packages, because a Magnum bottle a recipient keeps on their desk is what turns a one-time gift into a memory of your brand. So mind what the recipient hears from you. A standard Shopify shipping email reads like a receipt for something they never bought. Rewrite it to say who it's from, when it arrives, and how to track it, and leave the prices out.

gifting rules for ecommerce and Shopify brands

Start with the ten-second test

Open your own store the way a corporate buyer would. Time how long it takes to find out whether you can take a 100-recipient list, and follow the path from there: does the gifting page keep the promise the nav link made, is there a route for the buyer who wants to talk and the one who has a spreadsheet, does a big order feel reviewable before payment, and does the recipient email read like a gift instead of a receipt. Wherever the path breaks is the rule to fix first. For a full walkthrough of one store that gets this right, see how Rosenblum Cellars built a gifting journey worth copying.

Send To Many helps you deliver that journey to your gifting customers, whether they're sending to 2 or 2,000 recipients. With multi-recipient checkout and spreadsheet upload handled inside Shopify, you can focus on rolling out the rest of the red carpet. See it live.
